Besonderheiten:
Stadion Feijenoord, nicknamed "De Kuip" (the tub) was built between 1935 and 1937. then chairman Leen van Zandvliet wanted a stadium with a capacity between 60 and 75.000 spectators, inspiration for the stadium were Arsenal's Highbury and the Boston Red Sox' Fenway park. The stadium originally had one roof section covering the business seats and press area, and the maximum attendance was 69.300 spectators in 1949. Camp Nou is a near direct copy of De Kuip, including the single-section roof.
the lower section of the stadium has always been multi-functional, allowing for placement of a running track around the field, or a cycling track.
In 1993, after near bankruptcy of the Feyenoord football organization and plans to build a new Olympic stadium on the spot of De Kuip during a failed Olympic bid, modernization of the stadium was started and concluded in 1994. to save costs, only 85% of the seats would be covered to save on structural steel for the roof. The stadium was re-opened in November 1994 with a new capacity of 51.117 seats. For safety concerns (buffer zones around the away stand) the capacity is limited to 47.500 for football games, while non-football events (concerts) seat 50.000 people.
The Stadium itself features iconic floodlights that are seen as part of the identity of the stadium. even though the stadium received new roof-mounted LED floodlights during the World-cup break in late 2022, the "beacons" are still lit for matches at night for its atmospheric effect.
Players enter the field through an underground tunnel which is covered with the history of international games and finals played in de Kuip.
